If the email does not turn up in your Inbox — or the link does nothing

• Look in Spam or Junk, and move the message to your Inbox before you click. Most email providers switch links off inside the junk folder, so clicking one there quietly does nothing — no error, no page, nothing. Drag it to your Inbox first and it will work.
• You do not have to sign out on one device to use another. Your tablet, your phone and your computer can all be signed in at once, and signing in on one does nothing to the others. Once you are in, a device stays signed in for about 30 days and the clock restarts each visit — so this is not something you should have to do often. Sign Out is in the top right if you want to end it, and on a shared or borrowed device you should.
• Any device will do. Clicked on the device you asked from, it signs you straight in. Opened somewhere else — asked on the computer, opened on your phone — the site asks “Sign in here?” and shows your name; press Yes and you are in on that device.
• It lasts 30 minutes and works once. If it has gone stale nothing is broken and nothing is lost. Come back here and ask for another one.
• Sharing an address with your husband or wife? Two emails arrive, one for each of you — click the one with your own name on it. And because the five-an-hour limit counts the address rather than the person, take it in turns: if you both keep asking at once you will lock the address out for an hour.
